Accidents and Zoos

Yesterday I took the girls (Samantha, Sofia and Grammy) to the Minnesota Zoo to see the new Grizzly Bear exhibit. It really is well-done that the bears are up close and you can really see them. The down side for my family is that Samantha (3 1/2 years) was terrified. The situation was remedied by me showing her the lava tube (a.k.a. tunnel) that we could play in and go through.

When I first mentioned going to the Zoo, Sam remembered the playground and asked if we could play there. 2 minutes into playing, she stopped on the bridge and had that look.

"I HAD AN ACCIDENT!", she screamed at me, still standing frozen on the sand. I had a change of clothes, which were red-striped pants that clashed wonderfully with the blue and pink butterflies shirt that she insisted on keeping and the pink Dora crocs. I tried to minimize the clashing by rolling up the pant legs, but one kept falling down adding to the hilarity. Grammy and I had a good laugh at the fashion train wreck that was Samantha at the Zoo!

I should mention also that nursing in an observation bubble at Discovery Bay watching sharks and other fish swim by is the strangest place I've ever fed Sofia. It was isolated and somewhat serene though!

Ah yes, "accident fashion": the stylistic display of mixed patters and clashing colors. It's a style that I must admit is darn adorable. Well, despite the mini-trauma of an accident at the playground at least she got to keep her butterfly shirt. In that moment, I suppose that's what mattered most. (and the fact that the day at the zoo wasn't cut short from it)
